St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Holy Card

Francesca Cabrini was born in Milan Italy as the youngest of thirteen children. She was a sickly child who after a near drowning incident, never fully recovered her lung capacity. She was inspired by St. Frances Xaiver’s life of missionary service and desired to serve the Lord in a zealous way. St. Frances Cabrini founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and hoped to serve mission in China by getting approval by Pope Leo XIII. The Pope had another plan - to send Mother Cabrini and her sisters to New York City where Italian immigrants were the poorest of the poor, dying in the slums. Mother Cabrini obeyed and started out for New York. The sisters' arrival was not well received and after many prayers and abandonment to the will of the Lord, Mother Cabrini opened hospitals, schools, orphanages for the Italian children who so needed to be loved and cared for. St. Frances Cabrini had a magnanimous heart and sought the Lord with His strength to do all things. May we seek her intercession for trust in the Lord’s will and generosity in our own hearts.
